First opening Elsterland-Sternwarte

In 2009, at the 10th HTT, we founded the
Elsterland observatory.
The very last activities will hang over the 11th HTT. Therefore we wait with the official inauguration. But all instruments can be used. During the HTT the first observation evening will take place. We take a small fee if you want to look at the wonders of the sky through our instruments.
...more [in english].

Technology show at the daytime

The large variety at instruments alone is worth a journey to Jeßnigk. Every year 300 visitors look at the instruments, beginning with a small 2,5 inch “Telementor” refractor up to the 42 inch giant Dobsonian telescope. You will find scopes of all sizes, all constructions of many brands and self-constructed scopes.
In contradiction to scopes at an exhibition hall you have the chance to speak with the owners and to compare different scopes at the stars. ...more

H-alpha beer garden

Our astronomical catering service is unique: You can get drinks and delicious food from nine in the morning until late in the night. We have a breakfast buffet which costs only 5 Euros. From noon to the late night one meets at Roger's bar. Until late in the night you can get here tapped beer, fresh coffee, cold drinks and home made grilled specialities. The bar is illuminated by red light to preserve the night vision. ...more

Donations
Dear astronomers, our fees are very short. At the HTT you have only a fraction of the costs which you had at other astronomical events. We want not change this paradigm for submit anyone the chance to join. We ask everybody who does not have to count every Cent to donate something extra. You support therewith not only the HTT itself but also the construction of our observatory ›› observatory We are a non-profit organisation and can draw a donation receipt which confirms the german EStG. You can give donations directely or deposit at our account.

Parkhotel Schönewalde

Pension Jericho
 in Jeßnigk

Gasthaus "Wolfschlucht"

Pension "Forsthaus Striesa"

Grillhütte Grochwitz

Hotel Nordklause

Pension Purma

More boarding houses you can find at the websites of the little towns:
Herzberg, Schönewalde and Schlieben
Food + drinks
In contradiction to other star parties you don't need to cook or to barbecue for yourself. You get delicious and inexpensive foods and drinks nearly around the clock.

Peter and Roger Franke offer homme cooked dishes form nine in the morning to two in the night. We like the intimate flair of the HTT. The H-alpha bar is an important meeting point where you will get to know many astronomers. Interesting discussions and talks happen here.
Electric power
Our northern meadow is reserved for photographers. There we have sockets with 230V AC. Please have cross-connectors and extension cables with you. At the large southern meadow you find power supply only at a few points. Please inform you before you camp there.
Please pay attention:
Our power supply delivers enough energy for driving telescopes and for charging notebooks. But our electrical capacity is not unlimited. Please avoid plugging in consumpting devices.
Toilets and lavatories
At our place we can use the building of the local sports club which contains toilets and cold & war water. If you want to take a shower you can use the club building of the soccer club Kolochau which is 3 km away. During the day we recommend a visit at the nearby lakes for bathing Brandis and Bernsdorf.
Site rules
The usage of green laser pointers is forbidden. Exceptions must be allowed by the HTT team. Please do not play music and avoid loud noises at night time.
Please avoid the usage of white light. You should have special care of your car which may switch on lights when the doors are opened.
When leaving please take all waste with you. We had never problems with that and thank our visitors in advance for their exemplary behaviour.
Lectures... Workshops... Observation hints

The program presented is preliminary. Small changes will be announced over loudspeaker. Please ask your neighbour to translate this German messages into English. The HTT starts at Thursday but you can arrive as early as Wednesday afternoon.

Friday, September 10th, 7:00 p.m.
First observation night
at the Elsterland observatory, which is located at the HTT northern meadow.
Please feel free to use our weather measuring at the observatory. Our online service sends many meteorological values. At night time we determine the sky clearness using SQM (L) values (24 hours Statistics). Please click at the image to the right to switch to the meteorological data [in english and other languages].

Friday and Saturday 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 1:00 a.m.
Moderated sky tour : HTT Skyguide 2010.
Moderation and selection of objects: Uwe Pilz. Our meeting point is near the giant Dobsonian telescope.
HTT location: current weather

Friday and Saturday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.:
The Sky Quality Meter in practical use
The predictive value of Sky Quality Meter (SQM) measurements: At the HTT we have suitable conditions for checking the SQM: 1) Many astronomers are at the place. We hope to have a sufficient number of SQM devices at the site. 2) Very good night sky, as well astronomical and meteorological. We will be able to investigate the influence of the milky was and the zodiacal light on SQM measurements.
Bernhard Engeser collects such values since 2006 and will be offer the results in a database. The most important results will be published in astronomical periodicals. We ask all astronomers to join this project. If you own a SQM please have it with you. [ more]

Enjoy the milky way like our predecessors!
The astronomer Max Wolf was a pioneer of astronomical photographing. His images are still stunning. Photographing the sky was at the very beginning those days. The plates had much lesser sensitivity and could only record blue light. But electricity was not as common as today and Central Europe’s’ sky war much darker. Nearly everybody could see the brilliant shine of the Milky way. Our images show this in a comparison:

Die Sommer-Milchstraße unter sehr guten Bedingungen im historischen Vergleich
If you check Max Wolfs' photograph against a contemporary image taken in Southern Brandenburg you see that this region prevents the astronomical conditions which were common 100 years ago. Please note that the modern image was nearly not modified by help of computers. It reflects the potential of the HTTs’ sky. In Central Europe you find outside of the Alpes such favourable conditions only in some regions of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg and Poland. Here you have the chance to see and photograph the subtle glow of the Milky Ways’ border. In other regions you can only bring out the bright central regions of our galaxy. Please look in the bottom third of the image after this fine glow. [more Infos here.]

Saturday, September 19th, 11 p.m.
The "Orchester der Bergarbeiter Plessa" [Miners' orchestra] will play for us. It is one of the best orchestras of the region. You will not believe that they are complete amateurs. The orchestra has playing also in the last year: look here.

Saturday, 1: 00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Small but delicate: Our fair "AstroTechnik- und Vereinsmesse" (ATV).
We don't have all big sellers, but we are proud to present products form good old europe in the home country of the "Zeiss Telementeor" telescope
We hope you enjoy the presentations of :
- Gerd Neumann jr.
- ASTROTECH Daniel Arndt
- Wolfgang Lille - Optical devices / Sun observation instruments.
- O.S.D.V. Andreas Pietsch
- APM Telescopes Markus Ludes
Beside this astronomical clubs and observers will tell us about their activities and projects:
- Thomas Heising: Testing the optical quality of your instrument with the help of Ronchi and Foucault test. Thomas brings
a 12" plan mirror to the HTT place.
Beside this, Thomas will show you how to grind an astronomical mirror. This point takes place the second time.
- Uwe Pilz holds again the workshop How to calibrate a Newton telescope, presents his book for newbies and tells about
the activities of the German Comet observation group.
- Martin Fiedler holds again his workshop How to finish astronomocal images (with Giotto, Avistack, Fitswork...)
- The AstroTeam Elbe-Elster e.V. shows you the current projects (finishing the observatory, taking astronomical
pictures, construction of the 28" WERNER REIMANN telescope).
The workshops and lectures will take place between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Small changes will be announced over loudspeaker. Please ask your neighbour to translate this German messages into English.

Saturday, 6:00 p.m.
Decoration of the most impressive self constructed telescope
At the HTT we found more and more self constructed instruments. Att the 10th HTT in 2009 we started with decorating instruments. In this year we select again the interesting ATM projects.

Saturday, 7:00 p.m.
Great Astronomical Photo Evening
The members of the AstroTeams Elbe-Elster e.V. show you the most interesting astronomical photographs from the last years. Most of the pictures are from Martin Fiedler, Michael Möckel, Stefan Simon and Ralf Hofner. We encourage our vistors to show their best photographs and sketches. Please contact the HTT team in advance for preparing your show.
Until the HTT starts, you may enjoy the Galleries of the HTT team:
